Bridge Replacement Prep Work Underway
Cardi Corp. crews installed concrete construction barriers on the 'White Church' bridge as a one-way detour was imposed.
Cardi Corp. crews began prepping for the replacement of the Central Bridge through Barrington on Wednesday, Oct. 2.Β
Workers began placing concrete construction barriers and temporary fencing on the bridge as traffic was reduced to one lane eastbound from around 9 am to 3:30 pm. Barrington patrol officers were stationed at each end of the bridge.
Workers will be restriping the bridge and installing temporary wheelchair ramps and crosswalks on the bridge as well, which carries Massasoit Avenue traffic back and forth from the Hampden Meadows neighborhood.Β

The one-way detour will continue through Friday, Oct. 4. Westbound traffic is being detoured to New Meadow Road to County Road. There was a full-bridge closure and detour from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.
Emergency vehicles and school buses are allowed to travel both ways on the bridge.

Construction will continue into 2017, according to the RI Department of Transportation. Cardi won the job with a $15.4 million bid, said Michael Swift, principal civil engineer for RIDOT/s Construction Management Group.Β
