Here's What's Happening This Weekend

Here are some things to do this weekend, Nov. 15-17, in and around Barrington: 

Barrington Presbyterian Church, 400 County Road, holds its Autumn Auction on Friday from 7-9 pm. Come and bid on jewelry, art, services, gift cards/baskets and more. There will be light refreshments and live music as you bid. For more information, contact the church office at (401)-245-2218.

On Saturday from 3-4 pm at Barrington Middle School, sing and dance along with the Toe Jam Puppet Band, an interactive experience that is fun for young children and adults alike. Toe Jam combines music with dancing, puppetry and storytelling. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 per person at the door, or $30 max per family. Barrington resident Navyn Salem speaks on Sunday at 11:30 am in the fellowship hall of the Barrington Congregational Church, 461 County Road, about how, Edesia, a nonprofit company she founded and serves as executive director, is helping to tackle the crisis of childhood malnutrition through innovative manufacturing in Providence.  Her nonprofit factory produces nutritious, peanut-based ready-to-use foods for major organizations such as UNICEF, the World Food Programme, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Since production began in March of 2010, Edesia has helped prevent or treat malnutrition for more than 1.5 million children in 36 countries. Navyn also will present a slideshow of her recent travels to Niger and Haiti. The event is sponsored by the Justice and Witness ministry team at “the White Church.”

The Baptist Church in Warren begins the year-long celebration of its 250th anniversary with events scheduled all weekend. A lasagna dinner kicks off the celebration Friday at 6 pm. Contact the church at 245-3669 or 250baptistchurchinwarren.com if you plan to attend. The dinner includes the unveiling of a special 250th banner. Then on Saturday at 10 am, a gravestone rubbing and digital photography session will take place in the North Burial Ground. On Sunday at 10 am, the church will serve an authentic Colonial breakfast using original recipes for jonnycakes, brown bread and hasty pudding.

The Herreshoff Marine Museum, 1 Burnside St., Bristol, holds a free day on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Cider and snacks, children's activities, games, a movie, guided tours, a special visit to our restoration shop to see our shipwright at work, and tours of The RELIANCE Project will be offered.
