'Wizard of Oz' Opens Tonight; Learn About History of Lace

Here are some things to know about today in Barrington.

Here are some things to know about today, Nov. 21, in Barrington: 

  • Partly cloudy skies and a bit warmer with temperatures topping out near 49 degrees.
  • The Barrington High School Stagemasters present their first of three performances of “The Wizard of Oz” at 7 pm in the John Gray Auditorium in the high school.
  • Learn about the history of lace – including its smuggling, economic ruin, kidnapping and grandeur – at a 7 pm presentation in the Barrington library auditorium titled: “Lace: Threads of History.” It will be led by textile historian and independent curator and nonprofit consultant Madelyn Shaw.
  • The open-gym men’s basketball drop-in program operated by the Barrington Recreation Department continues at the Barrington Middle School from 7 to 9 pm. Men 18 and older play every Thursday.  
  • The Barrington Parks and Recreation Commission meets in the board room of the library at 7 pm.
  • Want to contra dance? Go to the Warren Community Center at 790 Main St. and join East Bay Contra Dance. You don’t need a partner. There is a $5 fee.
