Americo V. Texeira: Retired Major, RI Army National Guard

The Warren resident passed away on Jan. 19, 2013.

Americo V. Texeira, age 91, of Third Street, Warren, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Silver Creek Manor Nursing Home, Bristol.

Born in Providence and raised in Bristol, he was the son of the late Vittorino and Hilda (Alexandre) Teixeira. He attended Colt Memorial High School in Bristol and played and lettered in Varsity Baseball. He was a corporal in the US Army during WWII and served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard for 35 years, retiring as a Major in 1982.

He was a supervisor for the former Lloyd Manufacturing Company in Warren where he worked for 40 years, retiring in the early 1990s.

He is survived by two children, Victor A. Texeira and his wife, Carole, of Bristol; and Donna M. Gray and her husband, Curt, of Barrington; his longtime companion, Ellen Fennelly of Bristol; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Tavares.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at 11 am in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.

Visitation will be Wednesday morning only preceding the service from 9 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
