Providence Woman Charged With Columbus Day Vandalism

BRISTOL, RI — A Providence woman is accused of defacing a Bristol statue on Columbus Day. Arely Diaz Loza, 26, is accused of throwing red pain on the Christopher Columbus statue in Independence Park.
Police used surveillance video to identify the suspect vehicle, which later led them to Loza, the department said this week. She surrendered herself to police on Nov. 30, police said.
Loza was processed and released ahead of her scheduled arraignment in Sixth Division District Court on Jan. 19.
