You Can Take These Wooden Nickels

Discover Warren has created locally-designed wooden tokens worth $10 that will be accepted at dozens of local stores and restaurants.

The local merchant group Discover Warren is offering a new twist on a well-known Warren tradition, by offering $10 wooden tokens that are good for purchases at dozens of area shops.

Katie Dickson, of The Wooden Midshipman on Water Street, explained in a recent email that the idea was "inspired by our local bar (Jack's Bar) and their 'Good for One Beer' wooden nickels."

Dickson also noted the design by local artist Adam Tracy, which features intricate scrollwork with a stylized number "10" and a banner reading "Discover Warren" on the token.

"Old-fashioned, artistic, and a little funky — they suit Warren perfectly," Dickson said.
