Your Guide: Tales of the Slave Trade
Linden Place is the starting point for the Aug. 10 tour of historic sites in Bristol.

The next monthly "Tales of the Slave Trade" walking tour of historic sites in Bristol is scheduled for Aug. 10 beginning at 10 a.m. at Linden Place.
A detailed look at the DeWolf family and its involvement in the slave trade, the tour visits places in historic downtown Bristol and the waterfront on Thames Street before finishing at the DWolf Tavern for refreshments and a Q-and-A.
In 2008, family descendent Thomas Norman DeWolf published Inheriting the Trade: A Northern Family Confronts Its Legacy as the Largest Slave-Trading Dynasty in U.S. History, which recounts his journeys to locations in Africa to study the slave trade and his descendants' participation in it.
"I learned new truths about myself, my ancestors, and the founding of the United States, and that it’s impossible to think constructively, and honestly, about race without simultaneously examining issues involving gender, class, and privilege," he writes in the preface to the book.
Reservations required; tour limited to 15 people.
Cost is $20, $15 for Linden Place members, and includes a complimentary cocktail at the tavern.
