Today is Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013. Here are five things you need to know:

 

Today is Ash Wednesday: For many in western Christianity, it is the first day of Lent. It is called Ash Wednesday due to the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of churchgoers. The ashes used typically are from palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned. Lent is celebrated by Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians and some Baptists.

DECA Fashion Show: Coventry DECA will be hosting its Annual Fashion Show on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the CHS auditorium. Tickets are on sale in the school store, $5 in advance and $7 the day of the show. Come enjoy a night of CHS fun and fashion!

Princess Mérida Storytime: Gigi's Glitzy Boutique will host Brave's Princess Mérida on Saturday, Feb. 16. There will be a story, songs, dancing, pictures, autographs and a free gift for each guest! 9:30 a.m. - children 3 and under ($15); 10:30 and 11:45 a.m. - ages 4 and up ($25). Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling 401.615.3234.

CHS Alumni Musicians: Brad DeGraide, choral director and teacher at CHS, and Marina Ferri (Class of 2008) have scheduled an alumni concert for Apr. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium to benefit the CHS Alumni Association. They are looking for former high school musicians who have remained in the music field either as a teacher, performer or music professional.
