Providence Christmas House Fire Claims Life, Sends 3 To Hospital: Fire Chief

Nearly 50 firefighters battled the Christmas blaze.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Christmas house fire in Providence claimed one life and sent three to the hospital, according to the fire chief.

Nearly 50 firefighters battled the blaze on Princeton Avenue near Updike Street, Providence Fire Chief Derek Silva posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The blaze started in the basement shortly after 4:30 a.m, "with rapid fire growth," according to Silva.

"Firefighters continue working to bring heavy fire under control," Silva posted.

One man died after he was transported from the burning building, Silva said.

Two men and a woman were hospitalized, he said, with two in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital and another treated for smoke inhalation.
