Five Things You Need To Know Today, February 21

Today is Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. Here are five things you need to know:

 

CPL Fairy Tale Festival: Children ages 3-10 are invited to a Fairy Tale Festival today at Coventry Public Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Crafts, games and refreshments will highlight the event featuring beloved children's fairy tales. Call 822-9102 to ensure availability.

Fish Hatchery Tours: Looking for something to do with the kids today while they're on school vacation? RI DEM is hosting free tours of the Lafayette Fish Hatchery (424 Hatchery Rd., North Kingstown) today - one of three hatcheries where DEM raises fish until they are stocked in the state's waters. Tours will run continuously from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and personnel from DEM's Division of Fish and Wildlife will be on hand to explain the functions and procedures of the Hatchery as well as the life stages of fish. Click here for more info on DEM's free February events.

CPD Safety Event:  The Coventry Police Department will host a free Child Seat Installation and Kids Workshop today from 12-3 p.m. at Walgreens (875 Tiogue Ave.).

Free CHS Basketball Game: The Coventry High School girls' basketball team is holding its Senior Night game in the gym tonight at 7 p.m. against West Warwick. Admission is free but donations of canned/non-perishible food items are appreciated and will benefit the Coventry Community Food Bank. Guests who donate a food item or make a monetary donation to the food bank will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win $50 during half time.

CHS Alumni Musicians: Brad DeGraide, choral director and teacher at CHS, and Marina Ferri (Class of 2008) have scheduled an alumni concert for Apr. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium to benefit the CHS Alumni Association. They are looking for former high school musicians who have remained in the music field either as a teacher, performer or music professional.
