Lions Club Honors Four Members of Coventry Community

At Monday night's Town Council meeting, representatives from the Coventry-West Greenwich Lions Club were in attendance to publicly honor four members of the Coventry community for their outstanding service and dedication: 

• Detective Steven Gabriele – Police Officer of the Year 

• Deputy Chief Kelly Guastini – Firefighter of the Year 

• Tara D’Aleno – Teacher of the Year 

• James Spearman – Citizen of the Year 

Western Coventry Fire District Deputy Chief Kelly Guastini and Town Sergeant Jim Spearman were present at the meeting to hear Council President Gary Cote read a proclamation recognizing the honor.

"When it comes to service for the Town of Coventry, these are definitely citizens of the year," said Cote. "When most of us are running away from a fire, Kelly Guastini is trained to run into it without a second thought. Jim Spearman, for as long as I can remember has been a volunteer in some capacity, be it youth sports, the longest Town Council seat in Coventry history or his current role of Town Sergeant. On behalf of the Council to both of you and the other two honorees, thank you very much for your service to the Town of Coventry, it is greatly appreciated."

The Lions Club will host a formal Recognition Night for all four honorees at Nino's on Lake Tiogue on March 1 at 6 p.m. Tickets to the event are $35 per person which includes dinner and cocktails.
