Providence Man Facing DUI Charges Following Fatal Coventry Crash

COVENTRY, RI — A Providence man is facing DUI charges following a serious crash that killed one person and injured three others in November. Dauda Elegushi, 25, was the driver of one of the vehicles involved.

The crash happened Nov. 27 at the intersection of Abbott's Crossing Road and Main Street in Coventry. Two vehicles were involved, each with two passengers. All four people were taken to the hospital.

Elegushi, along with the driver and passenger of the other vehicle, was later released from the hospital. The passenger in Elegushi's vehicle, a 77-year-old woman from Coventry, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and died in the hospital Dec. 3.

Elegushi is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs with death resulting, driving to endanger resulting in death and two counts of physical injury, obstructing an officer, driving without a license and presence of alcohol while driving. He is set to be arraigned in Kent County district court on Wednesday.
