New Flood Maps Mean Some Will Pay More For Insurance

The East Greenwich Town Council approved a new “flood hazard areas” ordinance Monday night, an action required for the town’s continued participation in the National Flood Insurance Program. Under the new ordinance, some property owners will have to pay more for flood insurance while others will see their rates decrease.

Monday, Aug. 19, 11:57 a.m. – A Narragansett woman was stopped by police after calling in what turned out to be a fake prescription to CVS on South County Trail. She was released after police decided the statute required a person physically submit a fake prescription. The woman had also called in a fake prescription to the CVS in Wakefield. The woman told police she would never do it again. She was given a no-trespass order for the CVS.

Sometimes it is difficult to ascertain what is truth and what has become mythical. In a few instances fighting over such distinctions does not really matter. For it is my belief that while the truth reveals facts – legends and myths speak of a period’s zeitgeist along with a significant persons or events meaning for future generations. All of this brings me to Martin Luther King Jr.

This past Sunday afternoon (August 26) my friend, Tina Egan, and I attended a RI Board of Education meeting.  I am very proud of Tina as she was one of the plaintiffs on the recent lawsuit that ensured such an important meeting, which included a presentation on the use of the NECAP as a graduation requirement, would be open to the public.  

A Cranston man, formerly of East Greenwich, failed to make the curve on Main Street at London Street early Wednesday morning, crashing into the wall on the north side of the East Greenwich Farms parking lot, causing serious injury.

The Town Council heard engineering estimates from $25,000 to $53,900 to assess the extent of problems with the floor at Fire Station One on Main Street Monday night. Public Works director Joe Duarte strongly recommended the company with the highest bid, but council members asked Duarte to have further discussion with all three bidders before a vote be taken.

Coming in the mail this week is information from the town's Public Works Department on EG's new recycling program. Don't cast it aside!
