
James R. Bateson, Sr. 89 of Lyon Avenue died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital, according to the Perry-McStay Funeral Home.
He was the husband of the late Agnes (Souza) Bateson. Born in Seekonk, he was a son of the late George W. and Phoebe (Constantine Gill) Bateson. Bateson was an electronic technician for Gulton Industries before retiring. He enjoyed painting, cycling, walking and his daily trips to Dunkin Donuts & Morning Star Bakery. His greatest joy was being with his family.
He leaves one daughter, Karen E. Lamberton of Pa., four sons, James R. Bateson, Jr. of Attleboro, Scott R. Bateson of Providence, George W. Bateson and Gregory P. Bateson both of East Providence, one sister, Eleanor Knight of Virginia and eight grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ruth Cunha, Madeline Rupert and George W. Bateson.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5-8 p.m.
