On Oct. 13 at about 4 p.m., East Providence Police Officers were dispatched to two adjacent, vacant Orchard Street homes which had been broken into.
The officers meet with Filomena Silva of Exit Realty, who told them she had discovered the break-ins while checking on the properties that day. Both homes are up for short-sale, she told officers.
Silva said she discovered the first break-in after noticing a side basement door was ajar. Inside, she discovered the gas boiler was missing. She later noticed a rear basement door at the neighboring home, and discovered the boiler had also been stolen from that home.
The former owners of one home said the boiler, a Honeywell Utica gas boiler, had cost $2,600 with another $2,000 for the installation. The other boiler was estimated at $2,000.
The doorknob of one of the homes had apparently been loosened, but the door otherwise showed no signs of having been forced.
