East Providence police arrested two suspects early this morning, Sept. 30, in the mid-day shooting Sunday, Sept. 29, in East Providence.
East Providence Det. Lt. Michael David said that two people are in custody. They were picked up in East Providence. The names of the suspects and the exact charges will not be released until later today.

The man, believed to an African-American in his early 20s, was shot in the park near John Street and McCausland Avenue around 11:45 am. At least one gunshot was fired.
David also cleared up some confusion about where the man was shot. He was not shot in his car, he said. The shooting apparently followed an altercation on the basketball courts at the Onna Moniz-John Park in the Central Avenue neighborhood.

The man was treated at the scene by East Providence EMTs before being transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
A neighbor first called in the altercation at the park and then called back while officers were on the way and said there might have been a gun fired.
Police officers apparently did find the victim in his car, reportedly helped there by friends. He was stopped, received treatment and then was taken to the hospital.
Police said that witnesses told them at least four men were playing basketball at the park when a fight broke out. After the gunshot, the suspects were spotted running from the park heading toward Waterman Avenue.
