Body Washed Up On Jamestown's Head's Beach

A swimmer discovered the body, police said.

JAMESTOWN, RI — A body washed up on Head's Beach in Jamestown on Sunday morning.

The body was discovered shortly after 7:30 a.m. off Seaside Drive, the Jamestown police said in a media release.

"A nearby swimmer initially noticed the body and requested a person on shore contact authorities," the release said.

The Jamestown police said the Rhode Island State Police, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the U.S. Coast Guard were notified.

"The Rhode Island State Medical Examiner's Office later responded to the scene and took custody of the body," the release said. "A multi-agency investigation is now underway, with the Rhode Island State Police serving as the lead agency."
