Jamestown Schools Names New Superintendent

The new superintendent of Jamestown schools has 30 years of experience in the field of education.

JAMESTOWN, RI — Jamestown has a new Superintendent of Schools, and he's got a 30-year background in education.

David L. Raleigh — who will replace Dr. Kenneth Duva after Duva's move to North Kingstown — comes from Kentucky, where he served as the Superintendent of Schools in LaRue County Schools in Hodgenville.

During his 30 years in Kentucky, Raleigh served as an instructional assistant, substitute teacher, physical education and health teacher, assistant principal, principal, education recovery leader for the Kentucky Department of Education, and assistant superintendent before moving up to superintendent.

Under Raleigh's leadership, LaRue schools scored above average on the Kentucky 2022 and 2023 Summative Assessments and was one of only 20 school districts in the state to participate in the Local Labs of Learning Initiative.

The district was also able to open a preschool and prioritize transition readiness, social-emotional learning, and school safety as priorities.

"Members of the LaRue County Administrative Staff praised Mr. Raleigh’s approachability, strong communication skills, work ethic, character, and knowledge base," the Jamestown School District said in a news release. " ... He and his wife, Tami, are excited to come to Jamestown and have indicated a strong interest in becoming part of this community."

Raleigh, who describes himself as "an empathetic, collaborative and servant leader," will begin work July 1 on a three-year contract.
