It's that time of year again.Β Effective May 1, Newport's parking season begins. The fine for parking violations are $50 this year, up $25 over last year.Β

Metered parking will be in effect from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM daily, including weekends and holidays. Β The fee for parking in a metered space is $1.25 per hour in increments of twenty-five cents.Β
The fee for the Memorial Blvd. meters at Eastonβs Beach is $2.00 per hour. Β All city meters accept credit cards or coins. Β Pay & Display units located at the Touro St. Lot and Long Wharf Lot accept credit cards, bills and coins. Β The rate at the Touro St. and Long Wharf lots is $1.25 per hour in 1 hour increments. Β A Resident sticker does not permit residents to park for free at metered spaces.

The Gateway Visitorβs Center Parking Lot will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Β The Mary St. parking lot will be open Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Β The basic rate is $2.00 for the first one-half hour and $1.50 for each half-hour thereafter.Β
City residents displaying a valid resident sticker are entitled to up to three hours of continuous parking once per day in the Gateway and Mary St. lots.
Residential Parking Program
The Residential Parking Program is also in effect from May 1 through October 1. Β Parking is restricted in designated areas to vehicles displaying residential permits, a general visitor pass or temporary residential parking permit. Β Signage in each area will detail the parking restrictions for that area.Β
