Oh Deer, It's Time to Watch for Antlers in Middletown
Deer are being seen more and more along area roads this time of year. Drive carefully!

Oh deer. It's been a slow drive along Burma Road at night lately.
Just last week, a small herd of about 10 to 12 deer were seen on a grassy side of Burma Road near Greene Lane in Middletown. On Tuesday night, three young doe were spotted not far from the Carr Recreational Area.Â
While deer hunting season has already begun on Prudence Island (Oct. 19 to Jan. 31), deer are appearing more and more along area roadways.Â
We asked Middletown Patch Facebook users where they've seen deer in Middletown lately. Here's what they had to say:Â
Sara Aguiar Alford There are so many on Mitchell's lane
Bill Gauch A group of three bucks and another group of five doe in the Valley. A doe and fawn on the big empty lot on Wapping. Last year, there I counted 23 doe at one time in the Valley. I assume the reduction is a consequence of the increased number of coyotes which is a consequence of the coyote hunter.
Liz Knights Bartenbach I work at Bloom on Mitchells Lane. Yesterday morning I saw a beautiful, huge buck frolic in the field by our playground.
Robin Rosbolt In my yard near Greene Lane... but not recently since we put up a big fence for the dogs.
Elizabeth Fraser Oestreich Green end avenue, west of valley road.
Sara Mitchell There's a ton on bermer rd.
Ashley Brailey Paradise Ave.. and by the fenced area of the YMCA on Valley.
While it's great to see these natural animals out and about, drivers need to be careful. This Monday, a vehicle operated by Elizabeth Camara of Taunton, MA, struck a deer on West Main Road near Raytheon, reports The Portsmouth Times.Â
No injuries were reported. The deer was reportedly not found.Â
Deer hunting season by shotgun begins on Dec. 7 (except for Prudence Island). Archery and muzzleloader hunting has already begun.
