Traffic Restrictions in Middletown Sunday for Race the State Runners
The 53-mile race passes through Middletown on Sunday morning and police are asking motorists to be alert.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—The Race the State race is this weekend and Middletown residents are being advised of traffic control measures in place on Sunday.
A portion of the 5-leg, 53-mile race will be passing through town beginning around 7:15 a.m. and should be completed by 9 a.m.
The route is as follows: Runners will start the run in Portsmouth. They will run south on Wapping Road before turning left onto Third Beach Road. They will continue south on Third Beach Road and turn onto Hanging Rock Road. They will then run west to Sachuest Point Road and then up the hill onto Purgatory Road. They will turn left and head south on Tuckerman Avenue back onto Purgatory Road and then into Newport.

Police ask that drivers be careful when driving in the area on race day.

The race begins in Tiverton with a 3.8 mile run before a 1 mile stand-up paddleboard leg to Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth. From there, runners will stretch their legs for 12.3 miles to Fort Adams for a 5.6 mile kayak leg to Jamestown. The last leg is a 28.5 mile bike ride form Narragansett to Westerly.
