5 THINGS: Town Council and Sir Sandford Fleming

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Monday, January 7, 2013:

“You have to remember one thing about the will of the people – It wasn’t that long ago that we were swept away by the Macarena.” – Jon Stewart. There is just one government meeting scheduled for today, as the Narragansett Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at town hall.

Want to see the Boston Celtics play? The Neighborhood Guild is planning a trip for Feb. 10, when the Celtics play the Denver Nuggets. The final payment deadline is Jan. 25, but the tickets (39 of them) are first come, first served. For more info, click here.

Has the time or date or details of one of your events changed? The issue is that lately, people have been e-mailing me, and depending on the time of the day, it can take me anywhere from 30 minutes or 30 hours to get to the item, unfortunately. Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that Sir Sandford Fleming was born in 1827. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. Ring ring ring ring ring ring banana phone! On this day in 1927, the first transatlantic telephone service, from NYC to London, was established. It was neither a pony or bologna, so it had that going for it.

Surprisingly, he’s only 36. Happy birthday to Dustin Diamond, a.k.a. Screech from Saved by the Bell. You might also know him from literally nothing else.
