How Much Crime Takes Place in Narragansett?

New statistics were released by the FBI this month.

Six violent crimes were reported in Narragansett last year, according to according new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The 2012 number is down from 2011's total of 12 violent crimes.

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year. Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

In 2012, Narragansett reported no murders, forcible rapes or robberies, but did report six aggravated assaults.

In addition to violent crimes, Narragansett reported 280 property crimes in 2012. There were 50 burglaries, 219 instances of larceny or theft, 11 motor vehicle thefts and no arsons.
