Man Sentenced to Year at ACI for Domestic Offenses

A Providence man with multiple domestic offenses in South County has been ordered to serve a year at the ACI after pleading no contest in Washington County Superior Court on Nov. 13.

Superior Court Associate Justice Melanie Thunberg ordered Jeffrey Zaremba, 33, to serve a year at the ACI in return for a plea to a Rhode Island State Police charge of domestic assault stemming from an incident in June. Following his year at the ACI, Zaremba would serve four years probation and a four-year suspended sentence.

The charge was elevated from a misdemeanor to a felony because of Zaremba’s previous arrests. In return for his plea, an additional state police charge of domestic disorderly conduct was dismissed. The sentence was imposed starting on Nov. 26.

According to online court records and past stories by Patch, Zaremba, now of 77 Knight St., Providence, and formerly of 1110 Main St., Hopkinton, has several arrests in South County over the past several years, mostly for domestic offenses.

• In April 2012, Zaremba allegedly assault a woman in a car parked in the lot of Mobil in Narragansett. For more info, click here.
• In April 2011, Zaremba pleaded no contest to a domestic offense from December 2010. He was ordered to serve a six-month suspended sentence and six months probation, and to complete alcohol counseling and batterers’ intervention. For more info on this case, click here. According to police files, Zaremba had married the woman earlier that day at Narragansett Town Hall. However, the woman refused to cooperate at the time of Zaremba’s court hearing, and as a result, a felony charge of domestic assault was dismissed. The woman from the state police charges is a different one than the one listed as Zaremba’s wife in the Narragansett police charges.
• In January 2009, Zaremba pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police charge of drunken driving. He was ordered to pay a fine, to complete 40 hours of community service and alcohol counseling, to surrender his license for four months and to serve a year of probation.
• In October 2007, Zaremba pleaded no contest to a Naragansett police charge of domestic assault. He was ordered to complete domestic abuse counseling, and to serve a year of probation and a year-long suspended sentence.
• In July 2007, Zaremba pleaded no contest to Narragansett police charges of drunken driving and driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine, to surrender his license for three years, and to complete 10 hours of community service and DWI school.
• Also in July 2007, Zaremba pleaded no contest to Narragansett police charges of domestic assault, domestic vandalism and driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine, to serve a year of probation and a year-long suspended sentence, and to complete domestic abuse counseling.
• In April 2007, Zaremba pleaded no contest to a Westerly police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine.
• In August 2004, Zaremba pleaded no contest to a North Providence police charge of domestic vandalism. He was ordered to pay restitution and to complete a defensive driving course.
• In September 1997, a Westerly police charge of obstruction was dismissed by a judge.

According to online ACI inmate records, Zaremba is ineligible for “good time” credit. As a result, his earliest release date would be Nov. 12, 2013.
