Narragansett Police Log: December 1, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Two Cited for Fighting at Spinnaker Court

Alexander J. Babock, 21, of 290 Willard Ave., Wakefield, and Anthony Maier, 24, of 26 Indian Head Drive, Sayville, NY, were cited for fighting at about 2:08 a.m. on Dec. 1.

According to police, based on interviews the two got into a verbal fight during a car ride home about New York. When the car stopped, the two traded punches near Spinnaker Court.

As a result, police cited both for fighting. Neither wished to press charges for misdemeanor disorderly conduct or assault.

Alcohol Citations

- Harold E. Gerbis, 20, of 667 Country Way, Scituate, MA, was cited at about 2:40 a.m. and charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. Police said Gerbis is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer had to swerve on Burnside Avenue near Point Judith Road to avoid hitting Gerbis and two other men, who were hitchhiking. Police said when asked about the hitchhiking, Gerbis told him that they were attempting to get back to URI.

Police noted that the other two men both left the scene – both ran into the nearby woods. Police said Gerbis had a backpack with several cans of Keystone Light beer. The alcohol was confiscated and Gerbis was cited.

According to police, an officer found the two who had fled in the woods. They were identified as Gregory Dagit, 19, of 838 Black Rock Road, Gladwyne, PA, and Michael Biancardi, 19, of 35 Summit Drive, South Windsor, CT. Both were identified as URI students.

Police said the two also had on backpacks with Keystone Light beer in them. They were both cited as well.

- Ryan N. Duhamel, 18, of 4 Stoneybrook Road, North Grafton, MA, was cited at about 8:48 p.m. on Dec. 1 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Duhamel is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer noted Duhamel’s car traveling on Point Judith Road with a poorly-affixed front plate and a defective rear license plate light. A traffic stop was made near Burnside Avenue.

Police said that during the stop, a keg could be seen on the back seat. The keg was confiscated, along with beer and tequila in the trunk of the car. Duhamel was cited and allowed to drive from the scene.

URI Student Arrested for Warrant

Cameron J. Wuerthele, 18, of 20 Brittany Road, Longmeadow, MA, was arrested at about 5:01 p.m. Police said Wuerthele is a student at the University of Rhode Island, and a Fourth Division District Court warrant was issued because Wuerthele did not appear at a pretrial conference on Nov. 16 for a South Kingstown police charge of possession of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, an officer traveling behind a car on Burnside Avenue noted that it had a defective brake light, and a defective license plate light. A traffic stop was made near Middle Road.

Police said a background check of the car’s passengers revealed that one of them – Wuerthele – had a warrant out for his arrest. He was arrested without incident, and the driver was given a verbal warning for the equipment violations.

According to police, Wuerthele was processed and then released at about 6:45 p.m.

Narragansett Woman Cited for License Violation

Nicole M. Petrella, 23, of 18 Kingston Lane, Narragansett, was cited at about 6:35 p.m. on Dec. 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer noted Petrella making a turn from Jamestown Boulevard to Charlestown, cutting off traffic in the process, and then drifting while traveling on Point Judith Road. Based on the erratic driving, a crack in a taillight and the driver speeding, a traffic stop was made near Manning Drive.

Police said that when they asked Petrella about her driving, she told them she was on the phone prior to being stopped and said she wasn’t aware she was driving erratically.

According to police, Petrella’s license was suspended on Nov. 28 for failing to pay a fine for an inspection sticker on Aug. 13. She was cited as a result, her license was seized, and a family member drove the car from the scene.

Party Cleared on Clara Lane

At about 10:52 p.m. on Dec. 1, police received a report of a loud party at 8 Clara Lane.

According to police, about 30 to 35 people were at the party, with loud voices and yelling coming from the corner of Clara Lane and Joy Lane. Police said the party was broken up quickly with the help of the tenants.

The tenants were identified as Brandon Wade and Zachary Wende, 21, and Steven O. Dangoia and Nicholas Daniels, 20.
