According to police, Sims flagged down an officer driving near the Portside Restaurant and requested a ride home. He told police that he was staying at a nearby motel and had had too much to drink.

Police said that they told Sims that they could provide him with a ride, but he and his duffel bag would have to be searched first. Police said Sims provided consent.

According to police, the search revealed a bottle of amphetamine salts in the bag. Sims was arrested as a result.

Police said that Sims denied the pills were his, and said someone put them in his bag while he was at Bobby G’s earlier that night. However, police noted that when Sims’ clothing was searched more thoroughly at headquarters, three pills came out of his sweatshirt as well.

According to police, when Sims saw the pills fall out, he smiled and said, “**** I’m so drunk, I forgot I put those in there. Come on, you think I would have let you search me if I knew I had drugs on me?”

Sims was held for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court on Dec. 20.
