Police: Man Tries to Walk Away from DWI Accident

According to police, a South Kingstown man tried to walk away after a drunk driving accident. South Kingstown police logs from March 26, 2013.

South Kingstown Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Peter A. Bowden, 56, of 25 Amos St., Apt. #4, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 10:21 p.m. on March 26 and charged with drunken driving and driving with a suspended license, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, they received a report of a car accident near Benny’s. Police said that when they arrived, Bowden was attempting to leave the area on foot.

Police said that a witness identified Bowden as the driver, and police said Bowden had the keys to the car involved in the crash. Police noted that Bowden smelled strongly of alcohol, and when asked for his license, he provided police an ID card because he claimed his license had been suspended since a DWI arrest in 1995.

According to police, Bowden could not complete field sobriety tests because of pre-existing injuries. Police said he was arrested and charged with drunken driving.

Police said Bowden was transferred to South County Hospital for treatment because of the car accident. Police said a cat scan came back as normal, and he was discharged at about 10:09 p.m.

According to police, Bowden refused to submit to a blood draw at South County Hospital or a breath test at headquarters. He was processed and then released at about 10:56 p.m.
