SK Police Log: December 11 and 12, 2012
A South Kingstown man is charged with firing an AR-15 in his backyard.

South Kingstown Man Charged With Firing AR-15 in Compact Area
Christopher S. Babcock, 24, of 83 Mautucket Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 11 and charged with firing in a compact area.

According to police, on Dec. 11 they received several reports of shots fired on Mautucket Road. Police said that based on the reports, the gunfire was traced to 83 Mautucket Road.
Police said that using a PA system on a patrol car, the occupants of the house were asked to exit. Police said at this time, Babcock and a 25-year-old Wakefield woman exited the home, fully cooperating with police.

According to police, Babcock admitted to firing off several rounds from an AR-15 in the backyard of the home, telling them that he was being foolish and attempting to impress the woman.
Police said a search of the home revealed the gun and ammunition, both of which were confiscated. Police said that based on interviews with the woman, Babcock shot the gun into the ground several times. Police also interviewed the tenant of the property, who told them Babcock was not on the lease and was subletting from him.
According to police, Babcock was arrested without incident. He was processed and then released at about 11:44 p.m.
South Kingstown Man Arrested for Superior Court Warrant
Charles E. Perry, 29, of 597 Middlebridge Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 3:58 p.m. on Dec. 12. Police said a Washington County Superior Court warrant was out for his arrest for a probation violation.
According to police, Perry was arrested at his home without incident. He was held overnight for arraignment at court the following morning.
