No Arrests After Search of Marijuana Grow

At about 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, police conducted a search of a marijuana grow on Kersey Road and confirmed that it was within legal limits.

According to police, an officer responding to a motor vehicle accident at about 5:11 p.m. on Kersey Road noted the strong smell of marijuana in the surrounding neighborhood. When asked about it, a resident at one Kersey Road home identified a house several doors down as having a grow operation. Police said a look at the exterior of the home revealed vents commonly used in a grow operation, as well as visible marijuana plants.

Police said that based on this information, a search warrant was obtained and executed at about 7:30 p.m. Police said that after four knocks, the house’s occupants still hadn’t come to the door, and police could see activity and movement inside the home.

According to police, the door was then broken down as a result, and two of the home’s occupants were taken into custody. However, police said the grow operation only contained 17 mature plants and 18 seedlings, which were within the limits of one of the occupant’s marijuana caregiver card.

As a result, police said no marijuana was confiscated and no arrests were made. The home’s occupants were released and police cleared the scene at about 10:30 p.m.

However, police did note that one of the occupants was currently on probation. A report of the search was forwarded to probation officers for review.

South Kingstown Man Cited for Expired License, Registration and Inspection, and Stop Sign

David A. Rodriguez, 37, of 504 High St., South Kingstown, was cited at about 7:52 p.m. on Dec. 13 and charged with driving with an expired license.

According to police, an officer saw a car driven by Rodriguez fail to stop at a sign on Route 108. A traffic stop was made on the road as a result.

Police said a background check confirmed that Rodriguez’s license expired in June 2011, his car registration expired in October 2012, and his inspection sticker was from July 2011.

According to police, Rodriguez was cited for these three violations, as well as for not stopping at a stop sign. His car was towed because of the various violations.
