SK Police Log: November 22 and 23, 2012

Manville Resident Charged With Drunken Driving, License Violation

Jeffrey R. Therien, 28, of 12 Joyce Ann Drive, Manville, was arrested at about 5:16 p.m. on Nov. 23 and charged with drunken driving and driving with an expired license, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, they received a report of a three-car accident near the South County Commons, with the third car hitting the back of the second car, forcing it into the first car. Police said that the car at fault was driven by Therien, and he told police he had been at the Mews Tavern earlier that night, drinking.

Police said that when they asked Therien to consent to field sobriety tests, he told them, “Sir, I am not going to lie. I have been drinking and I don’t think I will pass the FOB test.” Police said that when they asked him again, Therien consented to the tests.

According to police, Therien attempted to do the tests, but couldn’t complete them. Police said he told them, “Sir, I can’t do this test, it’s obvious I have had too much to drink and I can’t do anymore tests.”

Police said at this point, the tests were stopped, and Therien was arrested without incident. Police said Therien refused to submit to a chemical breath test at headquarters.

According to police, a background check revealed that Therien’s license expired on July 4, and his car hadn’t been inspected since August 2011. Additional charges were filed as a result.

Police said an inventory of Therien’s car revealed four six-packs of beer – Coors Light and Killian’s – which were empty except for two of the 24 bottles.

Narragansett Man Charged With License Violation

Patrick O’Brien, 27, of 62 Rodman St., Narragansett, was arrested at about 4:08 p.m. on Nov. 23 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, they received a report of a single-car accident on Tower Hill Road. Police said that O’Brien’s car had hit the center median.

Police said a background check revealed that O’Brien’s license was suspended. He was arrested without incident, processed and then released at about 6:10 p.m.
