South Kingstown Residents Reminded To Clean Snow From Sidewalks
Residents have 12 hours after the snowfall or ice storm ends to clear the sidewalk adjacent to their property.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Winter has arrived in Rhode Island, and while we haven't seen any significant snowfall so far this season, South Kingstown reminded residents to keep the sidewalks clear around their home or business.
Since 2018, the town has required residents to clear snow from the sidewalk adjacent to their property or treat it for ice within 12 hours of the storm ending. Failure to do so could result in a fine up to $175.
The sidewalks of certain roads have been designated high priority for snow removal. They are:

- Main Street
- Route 108/Kingstown Road
- Old Tower Hill Road
- High Street
- Columbia Street
- Church Street
- Kersey Road
- Broad Rock Road
- Railroad Street in Peace Dale
- Sweet Fern Lane
Exemptions are available to residents aged 62 or older, people with disabilities or people with a proven employment hardship. Reach out to the Town Manager's office at 401-789-9331 ext. 1201 for more information. Applications for exemptions must be submitted each year.
"This ordinance is not intended to be punitive, but was adopted to provide a more walkable community during the winter season," the town said.
