This Weekend: Wakefield Art Festival, Summer's End Celebration and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Get star struck at the Frosty Drew Observatory's Public Stargazing Night (61 Park Ln., Charlestown), this and every Friday night at 6 p.m. Be sure to subscribe to the Frost Drew Observatory mailing list or follow them on Twitter (@FrostyDrewOBSY) to receive status updates about our public stargazing program. This is a free event, however donations are greatly appreciated.

Wakefield Art Festival:
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, the First Annual Wakefield Art Festival will be held on Main Street in Historic Downtown Wakefield. The festival will feature more than 140 contemporary American arts and crafts artists along with strolling entertainment including Rhode Island’s own Big Nazo and Ladies of the Rolling Pin. Narragansett Summer's End Festival: This Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce will hold its 11th Annual Summer's End Festival at Narragansett Town Beach (postponed from Sept. 22). The rain or shine event will feature an outdoor concert, kite flying demo, food and beverage vendors and a merchant marketplace. Gansett 125th Anniversary Celebrations: The Narragansett 125th Anniversary Committee will host two events at The Towers this Sunday, Oct. 6 to celebrate the Town! From 2-4 p.m., a performance of the soliloquy from the opera William Sprague and his Women, which references Governor William Sprague, the first President of the Narragansett District (later Town) Council in 1988. From 7-10 p.m., the popular band, "Eight to the Bar" will perform songs from each decade of Narragansett. Tickets are limited and are $15 per person to benefit the Friends of The Towers. Wakefield Jazz at The Contemporary: This and each Sunday from 2-5 p.m., The Contemporary Theater Company, located at 327 Main Street in Wakefield, will host "Wakefield Jazz Sessions". The weekly event invites local musicians to bring their instrument and jam with a house band and fellow jazz musicians. Cost is $5 per person. Click here to view the the event page on Facebook.
