University Of RI Denounces Racist Social Media Post From Student
President Marc Parlange called the message, reportedly posted by a student, "abhorrent."

KINGSTON, RI — A University of Rhode Island student could face disciplinary action after posting a racist message on social media over the weekend.
Sunday night, the university released a statement denouncing the actions and reaffirming the institution's commitment "to rejecting racism in all its forms."
"The University learned today of an offensive, unacceptable and racist comment posted to social media earlier today, allegedly by one of our students," President Marc Parlange wrote. "This language is abhorrent and has no place in a community that is deeply committed to anti-racism."

The matter was immediately referred to the school's student conduct process to be reviewed, Parlange continued, adding that the student's name could not be released due to privacy concerns.
According to the current student handbook, the university expressly prohibits race-based discrimination, including "unwelcome verbal, written, graphic or physical conduct."
