Monday Essentials: Emergency Council Meeting, Wickford Junction

Your guide for life in North Kingstown this week.

On Monday …

Emergency Town Council meeting: The Town Council scheduled an emergency meeting to discuss ongoing litigation with the firefighters, according to the agenda. As an “emergency” meeting, notice does not have to be posted 48 hours in advance, as required by state law. Although the agenda (here) does not specify what exactly will be discussed, on Friday the State Labor Relations Board ruled the town engaged in “unlawful behavior” when it unilaterally imposed 24-hours shifts on the firefighters and ordered the town to restore the old schedule and provide back pay and interest. They will meet this morning at 9 a.m. in the conference room at Town Hall.
