Obituary: George E. Kilguss Jr., 82, Banker, Korean War Veteran

George E. Kilguss Jr., 82, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.

Kilguss, George E. Jr., 82, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center of Providence, RI. For 59 memorable years, he was the devoted husband to Elsie M. (Schaich) Kilguss of North Kingstown. This November would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. He was born in Providence, RI to the late George E. and Marie D. (Berghahn) Kilguss, Sr.

George was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of Warwick Country Club, Potowomut Golf Club and the Aurora Club; furthermore he served on the boards of Cranston General Hospital, Cranston Hall of Fame, Meeting Street School, the U.S. Olympic Committee and Rhode Island Commodore. George was Past President of both the Providence and Cranston Rotary Clubs and Treasurer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and he currently attended Emanuel Lutheran Church.

George had an extensive, 38-year career with Citizens Bank. He was the executive Vice President of Citizens Financial Group, Director of Citizens Branch Banks and Citizens Trust Department, Senior Vice President of Retail Banking Group-Citizens and Regional Vice President of Business Development. Prior to his career, George attended Bryant College, Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University and University of Massachusetts.

Besides his wife Elsie, he is survived by three children and their spouses: Wendy M. Jefferson and her husband, Jim; George E. Kilguss III and his wife Kristen; and Matthew C. Kilguss and his wife Michele; three grandchildren: George F. Kilguss, Ethan E. Kilguss and Emily Marie Kilguss. George will always be remembered for his approach to "customer satisfaction", his strong work ethic, his extraordinary sense of humor and, above all, his commitment to his immediate family and his church.

His Funeral Service will take place at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 9 New London Avenue, West Warwick, RI on Saturday, July 9 at 9:00 AM followed by interment with military honors at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI. Calling hours will be Friday, July 8 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Research, Miriam Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box H, Providence, RI 02901 or to Emanuel Lutheran Church.
