Police Log: Nails, Broken Windows And A Machete

Tuesday, Sept. 3

8:42 a.m. – A State Street woman told police the maintenance man at her complex found nails under each of her car tires. No other nails were found in the lot. The woman said someone had put shaving cream on her car  the previous week. 

9:15 a.m. – The manager of Koch Eye Associates at 7805 Post Road told police two windows were broken over the weekend. 

10:49 a.m. – Police arrested a Wickford man, 26, into custody after he threatened a relative who came to check on him then did not stop for police while driving on West Main Street. Because police thought the man had an edged weapon on him, they treated the arrest like a felony car stop, with gun drawn. The man told police he didn't stop when he saw the flashing lights behind him because he thought they were coming to kidnap him. He said he was carrying a machete with him as protection against kidnappers. Police recovered the machete from the car as well as a folding knife. Both were seized. The man was taken by NKFD to Kent Hospital for evaluation.

5:19 p.m. – An elderly North Kingstown woman showed police a letter she'd received in the mail from a company called Global Processing, telling her she'd won $250,000. The letter was accompanied by a check for $4,650 that was supposed to cover "processing fees." She was instructed to deposit the check, then send the company a certified check for $3,450 and she could keep the remaining $1,200. The woman told police she was suspicious since she'd never entered any sweepstakes. Police did a internet search of Global Processing and found several instances of a similar scam – inevitably those who deposited the check found it bounced. 

7:45 p.m. – Police arrested Austin Corey Rupp, 20, of Ranger Road, on warrant from EG police, who wanted him in connection to a gasoline siphoning incident. EG police picked up Rupp at the NKPD.

7:46 p.m. – Police arrested John Joseph Kilcommons III, 27, of Hanson Drive, for domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct after allegedly assaulting his father during a fight at the Hanson Drive house on Aug. 29. According to the report, Kilcommons punched his father after his father refused to give him money. R.I. State Police had arrested Kilcommons and held him for NK police. He was held by NK police pending District Court Wednesday.
