Services for Retired NKPD Chief Set for June 19
James L. Wynne III, 70, passed away on June 13, 2013.

(Chief, NKPD Ret.) James L. Wynne III, 70, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Linda M. (Mudge) Wynne.
Born in Elizabeth City, NC, he was the son of the late James L. and Eva M. (Bullard) Wynne.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Chief Wynne was a police officer for the North Kingstown Police Department for 30 years; starting as a Patrolman and worked his way up the ranks to Chief. He was called back to service after his retirement to serve as the interim Chief.

He was the first North Kingstown police officer to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. He served on the Board of People's Credit Union. He was a member of the RI Police Chiefs Association where he served as Treasurer for two years; and the North Kingstown FOP where he served as Treasurer for 20 years. He was a member of the North Kingstown Juvenile Board and the North Kingstown Lunch Buddies.
Throughout his lifetime, he was devoted to helping others. He was a volunteer for the Old Wickford Ambulance Association, Seniors Helping Others and the North Kingstown Senior Center where he was a driving instructor and tax preparer.

A member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, he served on the vestry and was a docent at the Old Narragansett Church.
He was a loving father and grandfather. His grandchildren brought him great pride and joy.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Keith Pierce and his wife Wendy of Wood River Junction and Brian Wynne of North Kingstown; three daughters, Dianna Young and her husband Peter of North Kingstown, Denise Freyermuth and her husband John of Plymouth, MA and Karen Dolan and her husband Jamie of Richmond; a sister, Dorothy Smith of WA; and twelve grandchildren. He was the father of the late Tina Rogers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Requiem Eucharist Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 10 am in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 55 Main St., Wickford. Burial with Military Honors will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5 to 8pm in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to South Kingstown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Pond View Unit, 2115 South County Trail, West Kingston, RI 02892 will be appreciated.
