Four Charged for DUI in Portsmouth over Three Days
Each driver was stopped for a different reason but everyone failed field sobriety tests.

PORTSMOUTH, RI—Portsmouth police charged four people for allegedly driving drunk over a three-day period recently.
On May 12, police charged Scott Jospeh DeCastro, 36, of 5 Carol Terrace, Portsmouth, with DUI after an officer saw him driving on East Main Road without a seatbelt and then speed upwards of 50 mph in a 25 mph zone.
DeCastro reportedly was followed by the officer as he zoomed to Water Street and "attempted to hide in the driveway" of 109 Water St., but was unsuccessful.

DeCastro said that he tried to flee because he wasn't wearing his seat belt. Police noticed that he "immediately began smoking a cigarette" and was wearing sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt. He said he knew it "was a stupid decision" to speed though the neighborhood.
Police said DeCastro seemed intoxicated. He told police that he had a few drinks earlier and was heading to the package store to get more.

He later failed a field sobriety test and later, at police headquarters, registered a .193 and .190 blood alcohol reading in two preliminary breath tests.
He was later released with a future court date.
The next day, police arrested Dwayne Curtis Calhoun, 34, of 21 W. Evans St., Newport, for driving drunk after an officer stopped his car for an inoperable rear license plate.
Police said in a report that Calhoun crossed over lane dividers before he was stopped, and once stopped, showed signs of being intoxicated.
He failed a field sobriety test at the scene and later registered a blood alcohol reading of .083 and .08 in two breath tests at police headquarters.
Police also cited Calhoun for driving a car with a suspended registration and a laned roadway violation.
A day later, police arrested Brittany Rose Martin Barratt, 24, of 83 Olney St., Seekonk, MA, after an officer came upon her car pulled over in the breakdown lane on Boyds Lane in front of Founders Brook Motel at around 1:01 a.m.
Police said Barratt was "hanging out of the driver's seat" while vomiting into the roadway.
Barratt said that she might have eaten something bad, but police smelled alcohol.
She failed a field sobriety test and registered a .108 and .107 blood alcohol reading in two breath tests at police headquarters.
Barratt was also cited for driving with a suspended license.
Just about an hour earlier, police stopped Brian Eric Kennedy, 49, of 26 Russel Ave., Newport, after he was seen swerving in and out of his lane on East Main Road near Crossing Court.
Kennedy said that he was leaving a friend's house, had four beers and said plainly "I'm buzzed," according to a police report.
Kennedy failed a field sobriety test and registered a blood alcohol reading of .173 at headquarters—more than twice the legal limit of .08.
