'Heather Strong' Fundraiser Draws More Than 1,500 Supporters [PHOTOS]

A fundraiser organized by friends and family of Heather Abbott drew in a large crowd on Sunday afternoon in Newport

A fundraiser for Newport resident Heather Abbott, who was injured in the Boston Marathon bombings, drew a crowd of more than 1,500 Sunday at Dockside in Newport. The event raised approximately $50,000 for her medical expenses, reported organizers.

Last week Abbott said she is "overwhelmed" by the outpouring of support she has received after doctors amputated her left leg from the knee down. Read the full story of what happened to Abbott on Patriot's Day here.
