PORTSMOUTH, RI — The Portsmouth Police Department is looking to hire new officers to its force.
The department is now seeking applications from qualified candidates. All applications can be submitted online here.
Qualified candidates must be U.S. citizens, at least 21 upon hiring, and have a high school diploma or GED. Preference will be given to candidates that possess criminal justice/justice administration educational credits and/or honorable military service time.

Appointment to the department is subject to a satisfactory background investigation, medical exam, psychological exam and drug screening.
The Portsmouth Police Department offers a salary starting at $64,358 with annual increases up to $78,802 in year two and $88,756 in year three. A $5,000 accreditation stipend and an up to $5,000 education stipend are being offered.
