Yoga Festival at Glen Park to Benefit Women's Resource Center Planned for September
The 2016 Firefly Yoga Festival: yoga, meditation, food and the reveal of a new calendar featuring yogis in settings across Newport County.
PORTSMOUTH, RI—The 2016 Firefly Yoga Festival is coming to Glen Park in Portsmouth this September for a day of yoga, meditation, food and the unveiling of a 2017 calendar produced by a group effort from 13 local yoga studios.
The event, scheduled for Sept. 17 from noon to 7 p.m., will also generate money for Women's Resource Center of Newport, which provides assistance and support for victims of domestic violence across Aquidneck Island and beyond.
According to a news release, the Firefly Yoga Festival started with the idea to create a calendar that celebrates the local yoga community and all it has to offer. Meredith Brower, organizer of the festival, felt connected to her community through yoga, which also reignited her passion for photography. This spark led her to create the 2017 Firefly Yoga Calendar. She has since recruited 13 yoga studios in and around Newport County and photographed yogis in unique locations, which will be featured in the 2017 Firefly Yoga Calendar. What started as a small event to release the calendar quickly evolved into an all-day festival celebration.
