Providence Woman Sentenced For Smuggling Drugs Into RI Prison

Yahaira Cristina Contreras, 32,​ admits she conspired with others to smuggle 201 Suboxone strips into a prison in Central Falls.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence woman who admitted in federal court she smuggled drugs into the Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls was sentence to two months of probation, with the six months on house arrest.

Yahaira Cristina Contreras, 32, admitted in 2021 that she conspired with others to smuggle 201 Suboxone strips containing buprenorphine into the prison. Contreras admitted she provided the drugs and that she transferred $3,000 from her bank account to another person’s account to facilitate getting the Suboxone strips inside the Wyatt Detention Center.

In addition to her probation, Contreras must pay a $3,000 fine and be monitored via GPS.

Former Wyatt Detention Center correctional officer Kaii Almeida-Falcones, 30, of Smithfield, who guilty on June 10, 2024, to providing contraband to an inmate, was also sentenced. In November 2024, he was sentenced to six months in federal prison.
