RI Deputy Sheriff Charged In Connection With Women's Restroom Incident: Official
The deputy sheriff was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the incident at a Starbucks women's restroom, an official said.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Rhode Island sheriff's deputy was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with an incident at a women's restroom in a Starbucks on the campus of Johnson & Wales University, an official said.
Providence police were alerted to the "suspicious activity" of 34-year-old Jeffrey Cahoon on Sept. 16 at the Chestnut Street Starbucks, Kristy dosReis, the chief public information officer for the Providence Department of Public Safety, said in an email.

"Witnesses reported observing a male individual positioned near the women's restroom in a manner consistent with recording activity," dosReis said. "As a result of the investigation by Providence Police and in accordance with Rhode Island General Laws, Jeffery Cahoon, age 34, has been charged with one count of Disorderly Conduct."
The incident occurred the day before the Providence police were notified, court records show, and the charge against Cahoon was filed Wednesday.

Cahoon pleaded not guilty Wednesday and was released on his own recognizance, according to court records. A no trespassing condition was attached to Cahoon's bond.
Johnson & Wales University released a statement on the incident.

"At Johnson & Wales University, the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our highest priority," the statement said. "Campus Safety & Security was made aware of the incident at our Downcity Campus Starbucks and contacted the Providence Police Department. As an ongoing investigation, the university cannot comment. The student provided information to Campus Safety & Security and was offered supportive resources."
The State of Rhode Island Transparency Portal listed Cahoon as a deputy sheriff with the Department of Public Safety. Cahoon has worked as a deputy sheriff since 2018, according to OpenPayrolls.
