Give blood today - Today, Aug. 30, the Rhode Island Blood Center will hold a blood drive in Cortland Place, Lounge, 20 Austin Ave, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment necessary.

Y Dolphin Slide - Summer may be over but there's still fun in store for local kids. Register today for the Dolphin Slide Back To School Bash at the Y Friday, Sept. 6 - choose a session: 6:15 - 7 p.m. OR 7:15 - 8 p.m. Call (401) 949-2480.

SFD Boot Drive - Smithfield Firefighters are out on the streets this week pasing their boots for donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to aid their research to fight and treat the disease. Keep some spare change in your car's cup holders for them.

Trash collection - Trash/Recycling collection will be delayed one day next week due to the Columbus Day holiday.
