Health Inspections: Cafe 55, Tickers Cited

The following health inspection reports were submitted by the Rhode Island Department of Health for August and September, 2013.

Cafe 55, 55 Douglas Pike. — Inspectors noted one violation during a visit on Aug. 5:

Thermometer is lacking in the stand up refrigeration unit(s). 

Regulation: Cold holding equipment used for potentially hazardous food must have at least one thermometer that is located to allow easy viewing of the temperature display.

Inspectors also filed three violations in July that were repaired by the recent inspection.

Tickers Sports Grill, 45 Cedar Swamp Road —  Inspectors noted six violations during a visit on Aug. 20:

  • The French fry cutter and chopper blade had an accumulation of food and debris. Regulation: The food contact surfaces of equipment must be clean to sight and touch. Notes: Person in Charge removed French fry cutter. PIC took french fry cutter out of service the chopper blade was washed, rinsed and sanitized.
  • The consumer advisory provided does not disclose the foods on the menu that are raw or undercooked. PIC stated that new menus are being printed would be prepared by Sept. 20.
  • The bar is using a bucket as a dump sink. Notes: PIC stated that the facility is purchasing a new dump sink.
  • The dumpster outside is located on the ground (on gravel). Notes: The PIC stated that the facility must contact the landlord regarding placement of the dumpster. Regulation: The outdoor storage surface for refuse, recyclables and returnables must be constructed of nonabsorbent material such as concrete or asphalt and must be smooth, durable, and sloped to drain.
  • The floors, half walls and ceiling in the walk-in (located in the basement) are constructed of plywood. This material is not durable. Regulation: Materials for walls, indoor floors and ceiling surfaces shall be smooth, durable, easily cleanable and nonabsorbent for areas subject to moisture such as food preparation areas, walk-in refrigerators, warewashing areas and toilet rooms.
  • The floor in the kitchen between prep area and service area is in poor repair (missing tiles). Regulation: The physical facilities must be maintained in good repair. Notes: PIC stated that the facility needed time to repair (12/31/13).
