New System: Beginning next month, Smithfield residents will get new trash and recycling buckets as part of the town's new automated pick-up system. The intent is to increase recycling and reduce the cost of dumping trash at the Landfill in Johnston.
More Staffing: Looks as though the Smithfield School Department will get most of the money that the town council had held back to await an upcoming performance audit — councilors voted Tuesday night to give the school district $300,000 in November. That will allow the hiring of new teachers and support staff at Smithfield High School, according to Supt. Robert O'Brien.
