North Providence Man Arrested for Striking Local Man with Pipe

Smithfield Police responded to Dick's Sporting Goods Aug. 24 at about 10:30 p.m. for a report of an assault from the victim, ultimately arresting Jason Rappa, 28, of 31 Ivan St., North Providence, charging him with felony assault.

The victim, Joshua Cordeiro, 34, of Candlewood Drive, Smithfield, called police to report that Rappa, whom he identified by name, had hit him in the head with an object while they were outside the store.

Police later determined the object used to strike Cordeiro was a metal pipe.

Police called a rescue for Cordeiro, which treated him at the scene for his injury, which was minor. He was not transported to a hospital.

Police put out an alert to area police departments that they were searching for Rappa, and North Providence police responded to his home to see if they could find him. Rappa was later arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in Third District Court Oct. 28 for a pre-arraignment hearing on the charges.
