Schools Get Cash, Automated Trash
Here's your daily wrap-up of news and notes about Smithfield.

Now Hiring: Looks as though the Smithfield School Department will get most of the money that the town council had held back to await an upcoming performance audit — councilors voted Tuesday night to give the school district $300,000 in November. That will allow the hiring of new teachers and support staff at Smithfield High School, according to Supt. Robert O'Brien.
Clean and Green: Beginning next month, Smithfield residents will get new trash and recycling buckets as part of the town's new automated pick-up system. The intent is to increase recycling and reduce the cost of dumping trash at the Landfill in Johnston.
I Want the Car: Rhode Island game maker Hasbro is issuing a specially-themed Monopoly game this winter — and you can vote for one of the tokens.
Story time: Renowned Rhode Island storyteller Carolyn Martino brings her incredible talents to East Smithfield Library on Thursday for a 3 p.m. performance. You'll have your own story to tell after seeing this gifted artist.
Save Some Cash: Are you a teacher looking to outfit your classroom this fall? Ocean State Job Lot is offering a teacher discount starting Aug. 8.
