On Tuesday, Aug. 6, at about 6:29 p.m., Charymane Phillips, 73, of 72 Whipple Road called Smithfield Police to report her granddaughter, Ashley Pelletier, 25, of 66 Whipple Road had taken her debit card, $10, and a check from her.
Smithfield Police Capt. Michael Rheaume said Pelletier had made a $100 purchase at CVS with the debit card, and was attempting to use it to purchase a pre-paid phone card when Phillips canceled it.
Smithfield Police Patrol Officer Thomas J. Coleman was dispatched to Harris Road to speak with Pelletier, ultimately arresting her and charging her with larceny of under $1,500, theft of a credit card, and two counts of fraudulent use of credit cards, according to a police report.
