Smithfield Police called to Kohl's Department Store Aug. 4 for a report of shoplifting arrested a Lincoln man who had pocketed $220 in jewelry from the business.
Three officers responded to the 371 Putnam Pike location, according to a police report of the incident. When they arrived, they spoke with Michael Kerr, the loss prevention officer at the store. He said observed a man, later identified as Syed Mehdi, 49, of 11 Foxwood Dr., Lincoln, RI, place several pieces of jewelry in his pocket and pass "all points of sale" without paying for it.
The officers arrested Mehdi, charging him with shoplifting. He was issued a summons to District Court, and was arraigned on Aug. 13, with a second court hearing pending.
